ATREYU And AVENGED SEVENFOLD Spearheading 'Orange County' Sound?
January 16, 2008The Pulse of Radio reports: ATREYU and AVENGED SEVENFOLD will hit the road together for the first time in several years when the two bands appear on the upcoming 2008 edition of the Taste of Chaos tour. Although both outfits rock hard and come from Southern California's Orange County region, ATREYU vocalist Alex Varkatzas told The Pulse of Radio he isn't sure if there's an "Orange County sound." "I think that Orange County definitely has its own unique flair to it, you know what I mean, and I think that all the bands from here reflect it in their music," he said. "I think we do all sound quite different, but, I guess, you know, there's some over-the-top-age that I guess just comes from being from this area that we all would share in some way or another."
Other hard-edged younger groups that have emerged from Orange County include BULLETS AND OCTANE, THRICE, the now-defunct EIGHTEEN VISIONS and BLEEDING THROUGH. The area was also the birthplace of veteran acts such as THE OFFSPRING, NO DOUBT and SOCIAL DISTORTION.
The 43-date Taste of Chaos tour will begin on February 29 in Denver and is scheduled to last through mid-April. The bill will also feature BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE, BLESS THE FALL, IDIOT PILOT and others.
ATREYU plans to reissue its latest album, "Lead Sails Paper Anchor", with bonus material including a new song and a DVD.
"Lead Sails Paper Anchor" arrived last summer and features the single "Becoming the Bull". The newest single from the disc is called "Falling Down".
